Texas: Governor Abbott Appoints Four To State Board Of Veterinary Medical Examiners

~ Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced the appointment of four individuals to the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. The board is responsible for establishing and enforcing policies to ensure the highest quality of veterinary and equine dental services for Texans.

One of the newly appointed members is Lawrence "Larry" Moczygemba, D.V.M. from Berclair. Moczygemba brings a wealth of experience to the board, having served as the former president of the Academy of Veterinary Consultants and co-founder of the Academy of Rural Veterinarians. He is also a member of various veterinary associations, including the Texas Veterinary Medical Association (VMA) and American VMA. Moczygemba holds a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Science from Texas A&M University (TAMU), as well as a Master of Science in Statistics and Epidemiology from the University of Nebraska– Lincoln, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from TAMU.

Joining Moczygemba on the board is Stacy McLeod, D.V.M. from Weatherford. McLeod currently works as a veterinarian at the Weatherford Parker County Animal Shelter and is a member of both the Texas VMA and Oklahoma VMA. She is also involved in her community as a nursery worker at South Side Baptist Church. McLeod received her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from Oklahoma State University and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Shelter Medicine at the University of Florida.

Raquel Olivier, founder and CEO of Olivier, Inc., has been reappointed to serve on the board. Olivier, who holds a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation, brings her expertise in finance to her role on the board. She also serves as chair for several organizations including the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Board of Directors and APTA's Business Members Board of Governors. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Olivier is an active member of various associations, including the Texas Society of CPAs and the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials. She received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Management from the University of Houston and a Master of Business Administration from TAMU.

The final appointment to the board is Randall Skaggs, D.V.M. from Perryton. Skaggs is the owner of Animal Clinic of Perryton and has been actively involved in his community, serving as president for organizations such as the Panhandle Crisis Center and Perryton Rotary - 1670. He is also a member of the American VMA and High Plains VMA. Skaggs holds a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Science and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from TAMU.

All four members have been appointed for terms set to expire on August 26, with Moczygemba's term ending in 2025 and McLeod, Olivier, and Skaggs' terms ending in 2029. With their diverse backgrounds and experience in the veterinary field, these individuals are well-equipped to help uphold the mission of the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners – ensuring top-quality care for animals across Texas.
