Texas: Governor Abbott Appoints Petrilla, Tidwell To Advisory Council On Emergency Medical Services

~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott has appointed two individuals to the Advisory Council on Emergency Medical Services. Brian Petrilla and Rodney Tidwell will serve on the council for terms set to expire on January 1, 2030.

Petrilla, a resident of Tomball, brings over thirty years of experience in emergency medical services and firefighting to the council. Currently serving as the assistant chief of EMS for Fort Bend County, Petrilla is responsible for overseeing critical operations and management of emergency services. He previously spent 25 years with the City of Houston Fire Department as a Firefighter Paramedic and Aircraft Rescue Firefighter.

Petrilla's extensive experience in the field has also led him to serve on various committees, including the Governor's Emergency Medical Services and Trauma Advisory Council EMS Committee. He has also held positions as chair of the Texas EMS Trauma & Acute Care EMS Committee, co-chair of the SouthEast Texas Regional Advisory Council Preparedness Committee, and co-chair of the Lone Star College EMS Advisory Board. Petrilla holds multiple certifications from San Jacinto College and Houston Community College, including being a certified Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic.

Joining Petrilla on the council is Rodney Tidwell from Post. Tidwell currently works as a field paramedic for University Medical Center EMS in Lubbock and serves as the EMS Administrator for Post-Garza County EMS. He also brings valuable experience from his previous roles as a City Council Member for the City of Post and a Firefighter with Post Volunteer Fire Department.

Tidwell received an EMS Certificate from South Plains College, further adding to his qualifications in emergency medical services. Both Petrilla and Tidwell will play crucial roles in recommending changes to the EMS/Trauma System to ensure that communities receive comprehensive and efficient emergency care. Their expertise will be invaluable in shaping policies that will benefit Texans in times of crisis.
