~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Jonathan Richey as the new Judge of the 369th Judicial District Court in Anderson, Cherokee, and Leon Counties. Richey's term is set to expire on December 31, 2026, or until his successor is elected and qualified.
Richey, a resident of Rusk, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He currently serves as the Cherokee County District Attorney and has previously held positions as first assistant district attorney and assistant county attorney for Cherokee County. He is also an active member of various legal associations such as the Texas District and County Attorney Association, Cherokee County Bar Association, and the Federalist Society.

Aside from his legal career, Richey is also involved in various community organizations. He serves on the board of The Crisis Center Of Anderson and Cherokee Counties and is a member of the Volunteer Council for the Rusk State Hospital Board. He also sits on the Cherokee County Child Fatality Review Board and is a board member of the Rusk Education Foundation.
Richey holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Texas A&M University and a Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. With his extensive background in law and dedication to serving his community, Richey is well-equipped to serve as Judge for the 369th Judicial District Court.
