Texas: Governor Abbott Appoints Six To Commercial Oyster Mariculture Advisory Board

~ Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced the appointment of five individuals to the Commercial Oyster Mariculture Advisory Board. B. Keith Miears, Eric Davis, and Larry McKinney, Ph.D. have been appointed for terms set to expire on February 1, 2025, February 1, 2026, and February 1, 2029 respectively. Additionally, Shane Bonnot and Lauren Dunlap have been appointed for terms set to expire on February 1, 2027 and Bradley "Brad" Lomax for a term set to expire on February 1, 2028.

B. Keith Miears of Rockport is a retired individual who has been actively involved in the oyster mariculture industry. He is currently the president of the Texas Oyster Mariculture Association and serves as a board member for FlatsWorthy. Miears is also a graduate of DeVry University.

Eric Davis from Mont Belvieu brings with him a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry as he currently serves as the general manager of Pappas Restaurants Inc. In addition to his professional commitments, Davis also volunteers at Faith Family Church-Baytown. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the University of Houston.

Larry McKinney, Ph.D., based in Corpus Christi, is the director of research for Palacios Marine Agriculture Research. He is an active member of various organizations such as the Texas Aquaculture Association and Palacios Agriculture Research Board. McKinney also serves on the board of directors for Texas Audubon. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Doctorate in Zoology from Texas A&M University.

Shane Bonnot hails from Lake Jackson and currently serves as the advocacy director for Coastal Conservation Association. He is also involved with organizations such as Back Country Hunters and Anglers-Texas chapter and American Fisheries Society-Texas chapter. Bonnot holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from Texas A&M University and a Master of Science in Mariculture from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Lauren Dunlap, based in Austin, is the owner of Copano Oyster Company, LLC. She is an active member of various organizations including the Texas Oyster Mariculture Association, Texas Aquaculture Association, FlatsWorthy, Refugio County Community Development Foundation, and the Texas Bayside Historical Society. Dunlap holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Sam Houston State University.

Lastly, Bradley "Brad" Lomax from Corpus Christi is the president of The Oyster Company, LLC. He also serves as the chairman of the Texas Surf Conservancy and is a member of the Texas Oyster Mariculture Task Force. Lomax holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from St. Mary's University.

The Commercial Oyster Mariculture Advisory Board plays a crucial role in regulating the commercial oyster mariculture industry.
