Texas: Governor Abbott Attends Grand Opening Of Buc-ee’s In San Marcos

~ Governor Greg Abbott, accompanied by state and local officials, attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the newest Buc-ee's store in San Marcos today. In his remarks, Governor Abbott praised the company for its contributions to the Texas economy and its embodiment of Texas hospitality.

"The Texas dream is a result of generations who came before us - the businesses they built, the communities they created, and the legacies they left behind," said Governor Abbott. "Buc-ee's is a beacon of Texas hospitality and I congratulate them on this tremendous success."

The San Marcos location is expected to create over 170 new jobs and has been ranked among the top five U.S. retailers for entry-level salaries. Governor Abbott presented a proclamation celebrating Buc-ee's as a Texas icon to Founder & President Arch "Beaver" Aplin during the ceremony.

Joined by San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson, Senator Judith Zaffirini, and other state and local officials, Governor Abbott participated in the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony and even joined Buc-ee's employees in their "Brisket on the Board" tradition by slicing and serving brisket to customers.

Since its establishment in 1982, Buc-ee's has been known for its exceptional hospitality towards travelers across Texas. With this new 74,000-square-foot location in San Marcos, Buc-ee's now operates nearly 60 stores nationwide.
