~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has announced that he has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to send additional emergency management personnel to North Carolina in order to continue supporting recovery efforts after Hurricane Helene. This decision was made following a request from North Carolina Emergency Management.

In a statement, Governor Abbott expressed his support for the people of North Carolina, saying, "The State of Texas is deploying additional emergency response personnel to support North Carolina as they continue to pick up the pieces following Hurricane Helene." He also acknowledged the long and difficult process of recovering and rebuilding after a hurricane and promised to do everything possible to help fellow Americans in need. The Governor also thanked all the emergency response personnel and first responders who are working tirelessly to support recovery efforts across the southeastern United States during this hurricane season.

The Governor has directed TDEM to deploy voluntary agency liaison personnel who will assist with community recovery efforts in areas still affected by Hurricane Helene. This deployment is being coordinated under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), which is a state-to-state mutual aid system that allows states to provide assistance and share resources with each other during times of disaster or emergency. Through EMAC, member states can share resources from various disciplines, protect deployed personnel, and be reimbursed for related costs.

Governor Abbott has already deployed over 400 first responders, personnel, and equipment to assist with Hurricane Helene and Milton response and recovery efforts in multiple states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia. These deployments include sending Texas Parks and Wildlife Department personnel to help with debris clean up in South Carolina after Hurricane Helene hit. Additionally, Texas Department of Public Safety officers and Texas National Guard military aircraft were sent ahead of Hurricane Milton's arrival in Florida while disaster recovery personnel were sent to North Carolina for Hurricane Helene's aftermath.

Incident Support Task Force personnel were also sent to North Carolina to assist with state and local emergency operations centers in communities impacted by Hurricane Helene. Emergency veterinary resources were deployed to North Carolina to support response and recovery efforts, while emergency power generators were sent to Georgia following Hurricane Helene. Finally, Texas A&M Task Force 1 urban search and rescue resources were sent ahead of storm impacts from Hurricane Helene in Florida.

Governor Abbott's actions demonstrate the strong bond between states during times of crisis and the willingness of Texas to lend a helping hand to those in need. The Governor's office will continue to monitor the situation and provide assistance as needed.
