~ Bastrop County, Texas - Governor Greg Abbott has taken swift action in response to the ongoing wildfire situation in Bastrop County. As the Hudson Fire continues to burn over 400 acres, the governor has deployed additional resources to support local firefighting efforts.

In a statement released today, Governor Abbott emphasized the state's commitment to protecting its citizens from the dangerous wildfire. "The State of Texas continues to deploy all available resources to protect Texans in Bastrop County from the Hudson Fire," he said. "I thank our brave first responders who were quick to arrive on scene and remain working around-the-clock to keep their neighbors safe."

Last month, Governor Abbott declared a disaster for 143 counties, including Bastrop County, due to increasing wildfire danger and activity. This number may continue to grow as conditions warrant.

Under the direction of Governor Abbott, the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) has deployed over 90 first responders and 60 equipment assets to assist in containing and suppressing the fire. These resources include emergency management personnel, firefighters and support personnel from the Texas A&M Forest Service, troopers and a helicopter with firefighting capabilities from the Texas Department of Public Safety, and wildland fire support packages from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Other agencies involved in this effort include the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, which has provided game wardens, state park police, and a firefighting helicopter; as well as the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service which has dispatched disaster and recovery agents for animal evacuation and sheltering.

The Wildland Fire Preparedness Level remains at Level 3 due to fuel and weather conditions, current wildfire activity, regional preparedness levels, and availability of fire-suppression resources in the state. In just the past week alone, there have been 27 new wildfire starts burning over 1,500 acres across Texas.

To prevent further wildfires from starting or spreading, Texans are urged to limit activities that may cause sparks or flames, create an emergency plan, and keep emergency supplies easily accessible. As the Hudson Fire continues to pose a threat to the safety and well-being of Texans in Bastrop County, Governor Abbott urges residents to regularly monitor wildfire conditions and follow the guidance of local officials and emergency personnel. The governor's top priority remains protecting the lives of his fellow Texans during this dangerous situation.
