~ As wildfire threats increase throughout Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has taken action to ensure the safety of local communities. In a press release today, the governor announced that he has deployed state firefighting resources across the state.

"Texas stands ready to support local officials and communities throughout our great state as the threat of wildfire activity increases in the coming days," said Governor Abbott. He also urged Texans to take necessary precautions to keep their families and loved ones safe.

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, dry vegetation and high temperatures have created ideal conditions for wildfires in the northern and western regions of the state. As a result, the Wildland Fire Preparedness Level has been raised to Level 2.

Over the past week, more than 35 wildfires have burned over 3,000 acres across Texas. To combat these fires, Governor Abbott has directed various state firefighting resources to be activated by the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM).

This includes over 200 firefighters and support personnel from both state and local agencies through the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System. In addition, there are 45 equipment resources such as fire engines, bulldozers, and motor graders at their disposal.

The Texas National Guard has also been called upon with a CH47 Chinook rotary wing helicopter equipped for firefighting. The Texas Department of State Health Services is providing Wildland Fire Support Packages which include paramedics, ambulances, and all-terrain vehicles.

Despite these efforts, Governor Abbott has expressed concern over recent requests for aircraft assistance from the federal government being unable to be filled due to lack of availability.

To further coordinate response efforts between local and state partners, Governor Abbott has directed for statewide wildfire coordination calls to begin tomorrow at the Texas State Emergency Operations Center.

In light of current conditions and fire weather forecasts, Governor Abbott has also instructed for the Abilene Air Tanker Base at Abilene Regional Airport to be opened to assist in wildfire suppression efforts.

As a precaution, Texans are urged to limit activities that may cause sparks and to follow instructions from local officials. It is also advised to have an emergency plan in place and keep emergency supplies readily available.
