~ In the wake of recent violent attacks against places of worship across the nation, Governor Greg Abbott has taken action to increase security efforts in Texas. The governor has directed the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to work with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to protect churches, synagogues, and other faith-based organizations.

Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of safeguarding these sacred places, stating, "Places of worship are sacred. We will marshal all resources necessary to safeguard our places of faith." To achieve this goal, he has instructed DPS to bolster their security efforts.

The DPS security mission will consist of Texas Highway Patrol troopers, Criminal Investigations Division special agents, and Texas Rangers. These officers will work alongside the Homeland Security Division to identify potential threats and prevent violent attacks before they occur.

In addition to increased law enforcement presence, Texans are also encouraged to use the iWatchTexas Community Reporting System. This resource allows individuals to report any suspicious activities or behaviors in their schools, places of worship, or communities that may indicate criminal or terroristic threats. Reports can be made through the mobile app or online at www.iwatchtx.org. Those who prefer can also call 1-844-643-2251 to make a report.

The iWatchTexas app is free and available for both iPhone and Android users. Governor Abbott urges all Texans to download the app immediately and utilize it as a tool for keeping their communities safe. However, it is important to note that this program is not intended for reporting emergencies. In case of an emergency situation, individuals should still call 9-1-1 for immediate assistance.

By working together with law enforcement and utilizing resources like iWatchTexas, Governor Abbott hopes to create a safer environment for all Texans as they gather in their places of worship.
