~ At the annual convention of the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT), Governor Greg Abbott presented the Texas Officer of the Year Awards and recognized law enforcement officers for their crucial role in keeping Texas safe.
In his speech, Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of law enforcement in maintaining public safety. He stated that without their support, people would not be able to go to work, school, or even shop without feeling safe. He also expressed his gratitude for their bravery and valor, acknowledging that they do not receive enough thanks for their hard work.
The Governor was joined by CLEAT President Scott Leeton, CLEAT Executive Director Robert Leonard, CLEAT Deputy Executive Director Jennifer Szimanski, award honorees, and other law enforcement leaders at the ceremony.
During the event, Governor Abbott highlighted the vital role that law enforcement plays in protecting Texans and keeping communities safe. He specifically mentioned the 89th Legislative Session where Texas passed a tough bail reform package to keep dangerous criminals off the streets. The Governor also thanked all Texas law enforcement officers for their unwavering courage, tireless service, and steadfast commitment to safeguarding the people of Texas.

The 2025 recipients of the Texas Officer of the Year Awards were also announced at the ceremony. Among them were Jessica Caro from El Paso Police Department, Jason Davis from La Marque Police Department, Ilse Gerardo from Dallas Police Department, Suracy Gonzalez from El Paso County Sheriff's Office, Michael Gutierrez from McAllen Police Department, Harvey Richard "Dick" Hill from Arlington Police Department, Scott Leeton from Corpus Christi Police Department, Hayden McAdams from Potter County Sheriff's Office, Ashton Moss from Vidor Police Department, Michael Nelson from Tarrant County Sheriff's Department, Daniel Pollard from Bexar County Sheriff's Office, Jairo Sanchez from San Antonio Police Department, Michael Stephenson from Vidor Police Department,Frank Tapia from San Antonio Police Department, and Ben Wright from Fort Worth Police Department.
The Governor's office has also promised to provide additional photos of the event when they become available. The ceremony was a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement officers in Texas, and Governor Abbott expressed his commitment to working with them to achieve their joint mission of making Texas safer every single day.
