~ Last night, Governor Greg Abbott was honored with the Sun and Star Legacy Award at the Japan American Society DFW Awards Gala. During his acceptance speech, he highlighted the strong economic partnership between Texas and Japan.
Governor Abbott emphasized the shared values of hard work, freedom, and innovation between Texas and Japan. He also mentioned their collaboration on issues such as advanced manufacturing, life sciences, and energy solutions. The Governor assured that he will continue to work towards strengthening the relationship between the two regions.
In his remarks, Governor Abbott also highlighted Texas' position as a leading economic powerhouse. The state has been recognized as the Best State for Business for 21 consecutive years and has received top rankings for economic development, job creation, and new business investments. He also noted that Japan is Texas' seventh-largest trading partner with an annual trade of over $25.9 billion.

These projects have supported tens of thousands of jobs in the state.
At the gala, Governor Abbott was presented with the 2026 Sun and Star Legacy Award by the Japan America Society of DFW for his exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to strengthening economic and cultural ties between Texas and Japan. He was joined by Plano Mayor John Muns, Toyota CEO Tetsu Ogawa, Japan American Society DFW Senior Vice President of Licensing and Acquisitions Adam Zehner, Japan American Society DFW President Grant Ogata, Consul General Takeshi Koyama, and Texas Restaurant Association CEO Dr. Emily Knight.
