Texas: Governor Abbott Renews Border Security Disaster Proclamation In August 2024

~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has renewed his disaster proclamation for a number of counties and state agencies affected by the ongoing surge of individuals unlawfully crossing the Texas-Mexico border. The proclamation, originally issued on May 31, 2021, was amended in subsequent proclamations to include additional affected counties.

Under Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott certified that the surge of individuals crossing the border posed an ongoing and imminent threat of disaster for a number of Texas counties and state agencies. This declaration was further modified to include more counties as the situation continued.

Despite efforts to address the issue, Governor Abbott has determined that the certified conditions still exist and continue to pose a threat of disaster. As a result, he has renewed his proclamation and declared a disaster for 67 counties and all state agencies affected by this situation.

The affected counties include Aransas, Atascosa, Bee, Brewster, Brooks, Caldwell, Cameron, Chambers, Coleman, Colorado, Crane, Crockett, Culberson, DeWitt, Dimmit, Duval, Edwards, El Paso,Frio,Galveston,Goliad,Gonzales,Hidalgo,Hudspeth,Jackson,

The governor's proclamation also states that all orders and directions provided in the original proclamation and subsequent amendments are still in effect. Copies of the proclamation will be filed with the appropriate authorities as required by law.

Governor Abbott signed the proclamation on August 27, 2024, at his office in Austin, Texas. It was attested by Secretary of State Jane Nelson and bears the official Seal of State.
