~ On Friday, July 5, 2024, a disaster proclamation was issued by Governor Greg Abbott for the state of Texas. The proclamation was later amended on the same day and again on Saturday, July 6, 2024. This proclamation declared that Hurricane Beryl posed an imminent threat of disaster to several counties in Texas.
The affected counties included Anderson, Angelina, Aransas, Atascosa, Austin, Bastrop, Bee, Bell, Bexar, Bowie, Brazoria, Brazos, Brooks, Burleson, Caldwell and many others. The governor's proclamation stated that these counties were at risk of widespread and severe property damage as well as potential loss of life due to the hurricane's impact.
The hurricane was expected to bring heavy rainfall and life-threatening storm surge along with damaging winds. This posed a significant danger to the residents of these counties and called for immediate action.
In accordance with Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code which grants the governor authority in times of disaster or emergency situations, Governor Abbott renewed the aforementioned proclamation. He also authorized the use of all available resources from state government and political subdivisions to cope with this disaster under Section 418.017 of the Texas Government Code.
