Texas: Governor Abbott Renews Severe Weather Disaster Proclamation In October 2024

~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has renewed a disaster proclamation for the state on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. The proclamation was amended multiple times, most recently on Friday, June 28, 2024. This decision comes after severe storms and flooding caused widespread damage and loss of life in over 100 counties.
The disaster proclamation was initially issued on April 30th and has been amended nine times since then. The most recent amendment was made on June 28th. The severe weather that began on April 26th included heavy rainfall, flash flooding, river flooding, large hail, and hazardous wind gusts.
The affected counties include Anderson, Angelina, Austin, Bailey, Bandera, Bastrop, Baylor, Bell, Bexar and many more. Governor Abbott has certified that these counties have experienced severe property damage or loss of life due to the extreme weather conditions.
In accordance with Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott has renewed the disaster proclamation. He has also authorized the use of all available resources from state government and political subdivisions to cope with this disaster under Section 418.017 of the Texas Government Code.

Furthermore, Governor Abbott has suspended any regulatory statutes or orders that may hinder necessary action in response to this disaster under Section 418.016 of the Texas Government Code. This includes any state statutes or administrative rules regarding contracting or procurement that may impede emergency response efforts.
The Governor's office has also stated that copies of this proclamation will be filed with applicable authorities as required by law.
In his official statement released with the proclamation renewal on October 26th, Governor Abbott said "I do hereby renew the aforementioned proclamation" and "in testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name". The Secretary of State Jane Nelson also attested to this statement by signing it as well.
This decision by Governor Abbott comes as a relief to many Texans who have been affected by the severe weather and are in need of assistance. The state government and political subdivisions will continue to work together to provide aid and support to those affected by this disaster.
