Texas: Governor Abbott Signs Over 600 Critical Bills Passed During 89th Regular Legislative Session

~ In a move to solidify Texas as the greatest state in the nation, Governor Greg Abbott signed over 300 bills into law today from the 89th Regular Legislative Session. This brings the total number of bills signed by the governor to over 600.
"Texas is where the American dream lives," Governor Abbott stated. "Today, I signed critical legislation passed in the 89th Regular Legislative Session that protects the safety of Texans and safeguards the individual freedoms that our great state was founded on. Working with the Texas Legislature, we will keep Texas the best place to live, work, and raise a family."
The governor is currently reviewing over 1,200 bills that were delivered to his desk by the Texas Legislature. The sign/veto period for the 89th Regular Legislative Session will continue through Sunday, June 22.
During today's signing ceremony, Governor Abbott signed a total of 334 bills passed by the Texas Legislature. Among these were 16 critical pieces of legislation that will have a significant impact on various aspects of life in Texas.

One such bill is House Bill 18 (Vandeaver/Perry), which aims to enhance access to rural healthcare through establishing and administering certain programs and services. Another important bill is House Bill 27 (K. King/Flores), which requires all public high school students in Texas to complete a one-half credit course in personal financial literacy.
In addition, House Bill 35 (Thompson/West) was also signed into law today. This bill will enhance first responder mental health access by establishing a peer network for fire and EMS personnel.
Other notable bills include House Bill 40 (Landgraf/Hughes), which expands the jurisdiction of Texas business courts; House Bill 1397 (Harris/Middleton), which transfers custody of important historical documents to the State Preservation Board; and Senate Bill 10 (King/Noble), which requires every classroom in Texas public schools to display the Ten Commandments.

Governor Abbott also signed Senate Bill 17 (Hefner/Kolkhorst), which aims to protect Texas land from purchase by foreign adversaries; Senate Bill 31 (Hughes/Geren), which allows schools to adopt a policy for voluntary prayer and reading of religious texts; and Senate Bill 34 (Sparks/King), which enhances wildfire preparation and management.
Other bills signed into law today include Senate Bill 36 (Parker/Hefner), which streamlines homeland security activities; Senate Bill 75 (Hall/Wilson), which creates a Grid Security Commission; Senate Bill 667 (Hughes/Barry), which prohibits state retirement systems from investing in certain Chinese-affiliated entities; Senate Bill 835 (Paxton/Leach), known as Trey's Law, which makes nondisclosure and confidentiality agreements void if they prohibit disclosure of sexual abuse; and Senate Bill 1300 (Flores/Cook), which deters organized retail theft.
