~ Governor Greg Abbott made a significant move towards providing lasting property tax relief for Texans by signing three bills into law at a ceremony held at the Robson Ranch Clubhouse. The bills, House Bill 9, Senate Bill 4, and Senate Bill 23, were signed in the presence of over 125 supporters and business leaders.
In his speech, Governor Abbott highlighted the progress made in increasing the homestead exemption since he took office. He stated that when he became Governor, the homestead exemption was only $15,000. However, with the passing of Senate Bill 4, it has now been increased to $140,000 - an almost 1,000% increase. Additionally, seniors' homestead exemption has been raised to $200,000.
The Governor also emphasized that this session saw a record-breaking $50 billion being spent on property tax relief. He stated that this was unprecedented and no other state in American history has devoted such a large percentage of their budget to tax relief.
During the ceremony, Governor Abbott was joined by several state and local officials including Congressman Brandon Gill; Speaker Dustin Burrows; Senators Paul Bettencourt, Brian Birdwell, Brandon Creighton, Brent Hagenbuch, Bob Hall, Adam Hinojosa,Tan Parker,Angela Paxton,and Royce West; Representatives Keith Bell,Ben Bumgarner ,Charlie Geren ,Andy Hopper,Morgan Meyer,Candy Noble,Jared Paterson,Keresa Richardson,and Carl Tepper; Mayor Gerard Hudspeth; and Denton County Commissioner Dianne Edmondson.

The Governor also took the opportunity to remind everyone that Texas is one of the few states that do not have an income tax or death tax or capital gains tax. He further clarified that it is only local governments who impose property taxes on Texans and these new laws would help reduce those taxes.
Governor Abbott assured everyone that he is not done yet and will continue to work towards providing Texans with the property tax relief they deserve. He specifically mentioned the need to further limit the ability of local governments to raise property taxes.
The three bills signed into law by Governor Abbott are House Bill 9, Senate Bill 4, and Senate Bill 23. House Bill 9, sponsored by Representatives Morgan Meyer and Paul Bettencourt, increases the business personal property tax exemption from $2,500 to $125,000. Senate Bill 4, sponsored by Senators Paul Bettencourt and Morgan Meyer, increases the mandatory school district residence homestead exemption to $140,000. Lastly, Senate Bill 23, also sponsored by Senators Paul Bettencourt and Morgan Meyer, increases the mandatory school district residence homestead exemption for individuals over 65 and those with disabilities to $200,000.
