~ Last night, Governor Greg Abbott took the stage at Athens Christian Preparatory Academy (ACPA) in Athens to shine a light on the widespread support for school choice in rural areas. As a strong advocate for education reform, Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of empowering parents and investing in school choice to improve the future of Texas.
During his speech, Governor Abbott stated that school choice is a popular concept among Texans regardless of political affiliation. He noted that a majority of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents support school choice and that it has overwhelming support from Hispanic Americans, African Americans, and white Americans across the state. The Governor also highlighted that school choice is not limited to any specific region in Texas; it is popular in urban, suburban, and rural areas.

He specifically mentioned his support for Education Savings Accounts and pledged to expand the Parent-Directed Special Education Services program during the 89th Legislative Session.

In addition to promoting school choice, Governor Abbott outlined three pillars for making Texas the best state for educating students. These pillars include empowering parents, funding and training excellent teachers, and providing exceptional academics.
The event was attended by several notable figures including Representative Keith Bell and Representative Cody Harris. Athens Mayor Aaron Smith was also present along with Mandy Drogin from the Texas Public Policy Foundation Campaign Director and ACPA Head of School Brent Williams.
