~ Governor Greg Abbott has recently announced the appointment of Kenneth Omoruyi and the reappointment of Grant Coates, Jill Holup, Jeannette Pierro Smith, and James "Jim" Trippon to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. These individuals will serve on the board until January 31, 2031. In addition to these appointments, Governor Abbott has also named Jeannette Pierro Smith as the chair of the Board.
The primary responsibility of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy is to protect the public by ensuring that certified public accountants (CPAs) possess the necessary education, skills, and capabilities to perform competently in their profession. This is a crucial role in maintaining trust and integrity in the accounting industry.
Kenneth Omoruyi, a resident of Bellaire, brings a wealth of experience to his new role on the board. He currently serves as the managing partner of CKO CPAs and Advisors and is also an adjunct accounting professor at Lone Star College. With his background as a CPA and his involvement in various professional organizations such as the Texas Society of CPAs – Houston Nominating Committee and AICPA Sophisticated Tax Conference and Professional Ethics Executive Committees, Omoruyi is well-equipped to contribute to the board's mission. In addition to his professional pursuits, he is also an accomplished musician, serving as an alto saxophonist at his church.

Grant Coates from Fort Worth has been reappointed to serve on the board. He brings over two decades of experience in financial and investment roles with Miles Production Company and The Miles Foundation. Coates is currently CEO and president of The Miles Foundation and is actively involved in various community organizations such as Read Fort Worth and Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from University of North Texas and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Texas Christian University.
Jill Holup, a resident of Austin, has been appointed to the board as well. She currently serves as the chief operating officer and chief financial officer at CenterGate Capital and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder. With her extensive experience in finance and investments, Holup is a valuable addition to the board. She is also actively involved in her community, serving as a board member and treasurer for the Austin Humane Society.
Jeannette Pierro Smith from Mission has been reappointed to serve on the board. She is a partner at Carr, Riggs & Ingram, LLC and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role. Smith also serves on the board of examiners for the AICPA and is a member of various professional organizations such as the Texas Society of CPAs and National Association of State Boards of Accountancy. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from University of Houston.

James "Jim" Trippon from Houston has been appointed to serve on the board as well. He is a CPA and president of JM Trippon & Company and Trippon Wealth Management Group. With his expertise in personal finance and his involvement in professional organizations such as the Texas Society of CPAs, Trippon will be an asset to the board. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Accountancy from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
These appointments are subject to Senate confirmation, but Governor Abbott has expressed confidence in these individuals' abilities to serve on the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy.
