~ Grammy Award-winning artist Lizzo will serve as grand marshal of Houston's 77th annual H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade, the city announced Monday.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26. Lizzo, a four-time Grammy Award winner, was recognized by the city earlier this year with a proclamation citing her achievements and contributions to music education, according to the announcement.
Mayor John Whitmire announced the parade lineup alongside representatives of event sponsors and partners, including H-E-B, Reliant, RODEO HOUSTON, BP America and Downtown Houston Plus. He invited residents to attend the free events, saying the holiday season was an opportunity for Houstonians to come together.

The city also announced the return of Deck the Hall, the mayor's holiday tree-lighting and concert, on Saturday, Dec. 5, in downtown Houston. Presented by Reliant, the event will include the lighting of a 52-foot tree outside City Hall, decorated with 4,000 ornaments and nearly 100,000 energy-efficient LED lights, the announcement said.
Vocalists Jessica Sanchez and MAJOR are scheduled to perform, with R&B group En Vogue headlining. The event will also feature family activities, treats and a fireworks finale.
The city said it is planning for both events to be safe and welcoming. Detailed schedules, performer information, parade routes and road closures are available through the Mayor's Office of Special Events.
