Governor Abbott Appoints Four To Texas Physician Assistant Board

~ Governor Greg Abbott has recently made appointments and reappointments to the Texas Physician Assistant Board, a regulatory body responsible for issuing licenses to qualified physician assistants in the state. The appointments were announced through a press release on February 1, 2021.

Lyle Grimes, a resident of Cedar Park, has been appointed to the board. Grimes brings with him a wealth of experience in the business world as the global account manager for Choice Hotel International. He is also actively involved in his community, serving as the treasurer for the Austin Chapter of the Global Business Travel Association and as vice president of the Leander FFA Booster Club. Grimes has also held positions on various boards, including the Williamson County Conservation Foundation and Reveal Resource Center. He holds a degree in Government from The University of Texas at Austin.

Joining Grimes on the board is Chad Moody from Hemphill. Moody is currently a physician assistant at Preferred Hospital Leasing and is a member of the American Academy of Physician Associates. He previously served on the Hemphill Independent School District Board of Trustees and holds degrees from Stephen F. Austin University and Baylor College of Medicine.

Rao Ali, M.D., hailing from Southlake, has been reappointed to the board. Dr. Ali is a double board-certified pain physician and founder/CEO of Premier Pain Centers. He is an active member of several medical societies, including the Texas Pain Society and American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. Dr. Ali completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Montefiore Medical Center in New York and his fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine at Case Western Reserve University Hospital.

Sandra Longoria, D.M.Sc., has also been reappointed to serve on the board. Longoria specializes in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Care as a physician assistant and has previously been involved with organizations such as the American Academy of Physician Assistants and Texas Academy of Physician Assistants. She has also volunteered with the American Red Cross. Longoria holds multiple degrees, including a Doctor of Medical Science from the University of Lynchburg.

These appointments are subject to Senate confirmation, and if approved, Grimes and Moody will serve until February 1, 2031, while Dr. Ali and Longoria's terms will also expire on the same date. The Texas Physician Assistant Board plays a crucial role in ensuring that qualified individuals are licensed to practice as physician assistants in the state, and these appointments will further strengthen the board's capabilities in fulfilling its duties.
